There may be hope for my green thumb afterall.

Remember this?

Look at it now!

That's right, I actually GREW something! I am more than a bit proud of my little container garden. I've actually remembered to water the plants, and they've lived! It's miraculous.

I'd like to say that we've been enjoying delicious tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, peas and strawberries from our garden, but we've had a pest problem.

His name is Austin.

Unfortunately our sweet pest can't contain his excitement when he finds something growing, and he just has to pick it and bring it to me to see! So far nothing has had a chance to finish growing before it's been picked.

We have enjoyed some delicious fresh basil though, and we're loving our sunflowers!

And there's a few new tomatoes and peppers that are trying their hardest to make it!

All in all I'm just happy things have GROWN. We'll work on the actual ripening of things later. :)

Our Little Garden!

For several years Ellie has asked if we can grow some vegetables. Every year I've said "SURE HONEY!" and yet, it never quite happened. I blame it on many things, exhaustion..exhaustion...and exhaustion. Okay, so that's just one thing, but it's a Biggie! :-) Now, even though Austin is still the busiest child on earth, I seem to have a bit more energy, so this year it actually happened! We planted a garden!

We're starting with a container garden, and see how it goes. Our soil is very dense, with lots of rocks and clay, and therefore very hard for me to grow things. I don't have a very green thumb! So Sunday Jason took the girls vegetable shopping after church, and when they got home, we got to work!

What do you think? I have to say, I am pretty proud of us! And I'm very excited that (hopefully) later this summer we'll have some homegrown, organic, fresh veggies!

We planted strawberries, cucumbers, green bell peppers, basil, tomato's, peas, and sunflowers!

Our first baby strawberry! (Which is now sadly gone, thanks to Austin. I hope our plants survive him!)

And don't worry, the pots are screwed to the deck, so no one can "relocate" any of the plants! :-)

Baby Steps

Ok, so now i am realizing why i haven't been doing much cooking lately, (well, at least one reason!) we seem to be busier than i realized! Since posting that I would cook 7 meals in a row, We have not eaten dinner at home, as a family ONCE!

Monday: we had a family birthday dinner.

Tuesday: we had a business meeting + dinner out. I did cook dinner for the kids last night, before hubby and i went out though.

Wednesday: (tonight) we have T-Ball! I am planning on cooking before T-ball, mainly because if I don't the fresh basil i bought will go bad!

Thursday: (tomorrow) the girls will be spending the night at Grammie's house, and therefor eating dinner there.

Friday and Saurday: the girls will be at Grammie's too, Have I mentioned that my mother is a saint?

Sunday: as of right now i am planning on making Rotisserie chicken with grilled potatoes and grilled zucchini.

So, i am not counting this as a total failure. We haven't had fast food since monday at lunch, and i'm going to try to make it the rest of the week too. And tonight's menu is Chicken Quesadillas and Summer Squash with Fresh Basil and Grape Tomatoes.

Baby steps, people, baby steps.

Seriously, tomorrow!

Ok, first of all, Thank you all for your wonderful food suggestions and comments. Not only did ya'll help me (mentally) get out of my cooking rut, but you were also VERY supportive!

I have to confess that I forgot when I wrote my post yesterday, that we're going out for dinner tonight for a business meeting. BUT, I will not make a liar out of mysef, so I will be cooking for my kids!

They will be dining on the little smokies wrapped in crescent rolls (thanks janelle!) and green beans! They also had turkey and cheese roll-ups for lunch (thanks dawn!) and they've had grapes, banana's and pretzles for snacks! They have had all their food from home today! It's miraculous!

We also have a menu for the week, and I plan to stick to it! I'll keep you updated on the recipes we've tried and if we liked them or not.

Thanks for the help!
